Background

BMI OrganBankTM has developed its technology and capabilities in North Carolina’s world renowned research triangle, by serving and collaborating with leading institutions like Duke University’s ex vivo organ laboratory “DEVOL”, Wake Medical’s “WFIRM”, and UNC Chapel Hill’s Kidney Center.

Our patented technology has been deployed to support leading clinicians, researchers and organ specialists to perfuse and preserve an array of organs, and tissue, including animal and human kidney, lung, liver, small intestine, and vascularized composite allografts (VCAs) to allow vital therapies and clinical methodologies to be advanced.

BMI OrganBank’s laboratory platform, OrganBank Lab, has CardioVascular Emulation technology at its core, known as CaVESWave®, and is currently serving Duke, Yale University’s Neuroscience Lab, WFIRM, Porter Adventist, Colorado, with a number of new deployments in the mobilization.

OrganBank Lab was considered the appropriate platform on which to perfuse human lungs to allow vital gene therapy to be advanced into debilitating disease impacting the respiratory system.

Similarly the platform has allowed research into the effects on vascular flow ex vivo of a new drug therapy on NonAlcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH).

To further demonstrate its versatility, the OrganBank Lab platform is assisting studies on behalf of the Department of Defense into the opportunity to undertake lower intestine transplants and vascularized composite allografts that could transform the lives of our horrifically injured servicemen and women and their families, not least leading to an effective Battlefield Recovery System™ (“BRS”).

BMI’s home laboratory in the First Flight Venture Center™ of the North Carolina Research Triangle Park will soon host research projects for clients in the BioPharma arena and our vision is to see this capability expanded to other geographies to serve our clients growing need.

During the COVID-19 pandemic era it has become evident that BioPharma professionals must find ways to expedite research programs in a way that allows them to fail early and succeed more quickly and cost-effectively.
